Junior Academy
Junior Academy is a program designed to introduce young skaters to the sport of figure skating. The program allows skaters to continue to develop their skills in Balance, Agility and Control of the CanSkate program while starting to explore Figure Skating skills of the StarSkate program. Skaters will be introduced to a variety of StarSkate foundation skills. These skills include jumps, spins, edges, turns, and stroking.
Class DescriptionJunior Academy classes are 1.25-1.75 hours in length, which includes a 45 minute on-ice group lesson, 15 minutes of on-ice independent practice time, and dryland training of 15-45 minutes (depending on the class type and day). On-ice classes are taught in a group format with lessons arranged in a progressive and sequential manner. The independent practice time allows skaters how to practice effectively when they are not in a lesson. Dryland training assists skaters with developing the strength and muscle memory to achieve maximum success performing on-ice skills. It is recommended that Junior Academy skaters skate 2-3 days/week.
